THE GUNSLINGER’S WOMAN BY KELLY DAWSON

A hardened gunslinger, a sassy woman. Is his quick draw enough to keep her safe?

The last thing nineteen-year-old Jeannie Cooper wants is to be a prim and proper lady, so when her older brothers try to send her off to finishing school she runs away from the family ranch to keep them from putting her on the train to Boston. She plans to hide out on the prairie and return in a few days, but things go horribly wrong when she stumbles upon the infamous Mullins gang.

Danny Coulter is a hardened gunslinger with more than enough enemies already, but when he sees a beautiful young woman held captive by outlaws his conscience forces him into action. Rescuing Jeannie turns out to be only the beginning of his troubles, however. Her sass and defiance quickly test the limits of his patience as he endeavors to get her home safely, and before long he is left with little choice but to take her over his knee for a sound spanking.

Though Danny's firm-handed discipline leaves her bottom sore and her cheeks blushing, Jeannie is nonetheless excited when her brothers offer him a job at the ranch. Soon he is courting her in earnest, and after a local busybody witnesses him giving Jeannie the first bare-bottom spanking of her life, Danny proposes marriage to avoid a scandal. But with the Mullins gang out for revenge, will his quick draw be enough to protect his woman?

Publisher's Note: The Gunslinger's Woman includes sexual scenes and spankings. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

The town was silent, dead still. Even the sheriff was hiding. Three outlaws were facing Danny, and she knew there would be more somewhere, hiding, waiting for their moment. She stuffed her fist into her mouth to stifle her scream as she realised that her gunslinger was about to be killed, right in front of her very eyes, before she even had the chance to marry him. Tommy had his arm around her, protectively, and she leaned back against him, trying to calm her racing heart. She felt safe, knowing her brothers would take care of her, but she was terrified for Danny, knowing that an entire outlaw gang was waiting to kill him.

Tommy’s arms tightened around her at the crack of gunfire. She couldn’t watch, but she couldn’t tear her eyes away, either. She jumped, her whole body shuddering, as the loud crack of the gunshot vibrated through her. She pressed her hands to her eyes, fighting valiantly to hold back the tears that threatened to spill. She knew Danny didn’t stand a chance. He was just one man, against an entire outlaw gang. He was totally alone; she knew that anyone who moved in his defence, would instantly be shot by one of the snipers the Mullins gang had put on the roof of the saloon. Danny would be getting no help. This was one fight he had to win on his own.

Another shot echoed through the town. Terrified, she prised her hands away from her eyes just in time to see a whirlwind of motion. Danny was moving so fast he was a blur. He was running, shooting, somersaulting, then diving for cover behind a water trough. She looked at the street. Two of the outlaws who had faced him off lay dead in the street. The third one fired, his bullet ricocheting off the trough where Danny crouched, hidden. Water spilled out of the hole, turning the dusty street to mud.

She couldn’t look; she covered her eyes again. But after a few seconds of silence she couldn’t help herself. She peeked through the tiny cracks between her fingers. Danny shot from behind the water trough and his bullet hit its marks – the third outlaw fell. But where were the others? Her mind was in a panic. Where were the other outlaws? She wanted to scream, she wanted to wake up from this horrible nightmare. She wanted to walk down the aisle of the church on Emmett’s arm to marry her handsome gunslinger, just as she was supposed to be doing, not standing here at the edge of the street waiting, to watch him be killed.

Hairs stood up on the back of her neck. She pulled her eyes away from her face in alarm. What was going on? The outlaw on the roof of the saloon had somehow moved, and was now directly above Danny, a rifle pointing directly on him. It must have been instinct that had him roll away just in time, to new cover behind a barrel, a fraction of a second before the bullet exploded in the water trough, sending droplets of water splashing everywhere, the sun glinting off them like broken glass.

She gasped, turned, and pressed her face into Tommy’s shirt. She couldn’t watch. She couldn’t bear to see Danny killed. Tommy held her, shielding her, keeping her safe. But he couldn’t keep Danny safe. The reality hit her like a wave and shook her, and she stuffed her fingers in her ears in an effort to block out the noise, but when the next pistol shot rang out her whole body shook. Biting her tongue, she stifled a scream, but a terrified, heartbroken, desperate whimper escaped her lips. Another shot, and tears spilled from her eyes. There were just too many of them – Danny couldn’t possibly win.

Kelly Dawson loves anything to do with horses, rodeos and cowboys, and loves to get lost in a good book - preferably one containing spanking!

A life-long closet-spanko, Kelly started writing spanking stories on every spare scrap of paper in the house as a child. And now, here she is, 7 books later, with a plethora of ideas still to write!

She lives literally at the bottom of the world in the South Island of New Zealand, with her husband, four kids, a dog and a cat.
